Karen

Karen Kaufmann, Director, is a professor of dance at The University of Montana. She has worked in the field of dance education for over 30 years, as a teacher, choreographer, performer, and author.  Professor Kaufmann was recently honored with the 2011 National Dance Association’s Scholar/Artist Award and her lecture was published in JOPERD (May 2011). She is the Director of the Creative Pulse, a summer graduate program for teachers in arts education. Professor Kaufmann delivered the keynote address at the National Dance Association; Dance Pedagogy for the 21st Century Conference in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. (2006) and her address was published in Focus on Dance Pedagogy:  The Evolving Art of Teaching Excellence (2010).  She is the author of Inclusive Creative Movement and Dance (Human Kinetics), a textbook for classroom teachers on teaching dance to classrooms with mixed abilities and has published eight journal articles on dance in education. She is the co-author of Dance Integration: 36 Dance Lesson Plans for Science and Mathematics (Human Kinetics). Professor Kaufmann was awarded the 2009 Distinguished Faculty Award by the University of Montana’s College of Visual and Performing Arts for her work spearheading dance in Montana schools.

Jordan

Jordan Dehline Burt, Dance Educator/FSL Performer, graduated from the University of Montana in 2008 with a BFA in Dance Education and Choreography/Performance. She has performed as a company member with Bare Bait Dance, Headwaters Dance Company, and Plateau Ballet Repertory Theatre of Washington. Ms. Dehline Burt currently teaches in Missoula County Public Schools as part of the CoMotion Dance Project, is adjunct faculty at UM, and teaches ballet and modern at a Missoula dance studio. Jordan is an ABT® Certified Teacher, who has succesfully completed the ABT® Teacher Training Intensive in Pre-Primary through Level 3 of the ABT® National Training Curriculum. She is the co-author of Dance Integration: 36 Dance Lesson Plans for Science and Mathematics, released by Human Kinetics in June 2014.

Lindsey Lindsey Schwickert, Marketing Director/Dance Educator, began her training in Whitefish, Montana at the age of four. Soon traveling to Kalispell, MT, she became a passionate member of the Northwest Ballet Company. Performing in several Nutcracker Productions, Spring Showcases and also a guest artist for Azure Vision Dance Company, her desire to constantly dance landed her at the University of Montana in 2008. Currently, Ms. Schwickert dances with Headwaters Dance Company and teaches in the Missoula County Public Schools, integrating movement with the current curriculum (Model Dance Education, MoDE). Lindsey is an ABT® Certified Teacher, who has succesfully completed the ABT® Teacher Training Intensive in Pre-Primary through Level 3 of the ABT® National Training Curriculum. Along with dance, Ms. Schwickert loves outdoor activities and traveling the world. She is currently pursuing her MBA at the University of Montana.
Joy French Joy French, Dance Educator/FSL Performer, has happily returned to Missoula after completing her Masters of Fine Arts the University of Colorado-Boulder. Joy has a broad background in multiple dance forms (from jazz, to African, to ballet) and integrates them all into her dynamic teaching style. As both an award winning filmmaker and choreographer, her creative work lives both on film and stage. Joy is honored to be teaching again for MoDE as well as at the Univ. of Montana and the Missoula's Downtown Dance Collective. For more information, find Joy at www.joyfrench.com.
Ashley Ashley Griffith, FSL Performer, started her dance career so long ago no one can quite remember when. Over the years she has studied various styles including modern which lead her to the University of Montana from which she graduated with a BFA in Dance - Choreography and Performance in 2010. During her tenure there Ashley spent three seasons dancing with Headwaters Dance Company and studied traditional Ghanaian dance at The University of Ghana, West Africa. Upon graduation she had the honor of working with Joy French and what would become Bare Bait Dance. Ashley has spent the past year and a half managing the office and productions for a ballet school in Helena, MT and though she would gladly commute again for her second season with CoMotion she is excited to return to Missoula in February of 2015!
Allison Allison Herther, FSL Performer, was born and raised in Aberdeen, South Dakota where she first began her early dance training in a variety of forms. Pulled west by the beauty of the mountains, she preceded to Missoula where she graduated from The University of Montana with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance. In previous seasons Allison has danced professionally for Headwaters Dance Company, and Bare Bait Dance. This year will be her fifth season performing The CoMotion Dance Project’s production of Fire Speaks the Land.
Kaitlin Kaitlin Kinsley, Dance Educator/FSL Performer, began her training of Ballet, Tap and Jazz at the age of five in Suffern, NY. To broaden her dance horizon, she attended the Radio City Rockette Summer Intensive for several years where she was able to perform on the famous Radio City stage. In May 2013 she graduated with a B.A. in Dance from The University of Montana and received the 2013 Outstanding Senior Award. This is Kaitlin’s second season dancing professionally with Bare Bait Dance, Headwaters Dance Company and is her fifth season performing The CoMotion Dance Project’s production of Fire Speaks the Land. Kaitlin is also the Company Liaison for Bare Bait Dance and is the Administrative Assistant for Headwaters Dance Company. Beginning this October, Kaitlin will be teaching for the CoMotion Dance Project’s Montana Model Dance Education (MoDE) Program at Sentinel High School and Big Sky High School. Kaitlin is thrilled to be a part of so many professional dance opportunities while living in the beautiful state of Montana.
